Available immediately for users of iOS 11 devices and home hubs with tvOS 11, our latest firmware update for Eve Motion significantly improves performance by adding support for the new Bluetooth architecture introduced in iOS 11 (learn how it works). Motion detection, scene activation, and the issuing of notifications now happen almost instantly – there’s practically no difference in behavior when compared to an IP-based accessory.
To install this update, open Eve. Refer to the small red circle with a number on the Settings icon in the tab bar. The number indicates the number of accessories with outdated firmware (or accessories that require a battery replacement). Tap Settings, then tap Accessories. Eve accessories that are ready to be upgraded are marked by a red arrow icon. This firmware update requires a direct connection between the accessory and your device, so please ensure that you remain close to Eve Motion during the process.

Will this update be coming to Eve Energy as well? I find it quite slow to respond to changes and also to refresh the current status. Thanks!
Hi Stuart! Firmware updates for our products will be made available as soon as they are well tested and approved. Best regards, volker
That firmware update was great! Detection is almost instantaneous. I was impressed. The update took two attempts per device complete but took an average of five minutes a device. I just brought all the devices to one spot, got it done, and easily it was worth the waiting. We have a number of Eve devices, they all work great, and are planning to get more as we are using HomeKit to automate our house. Awesome job!
Thx AgentSmith! Great hearing that! Best regards, volker
Hello, will this update be coming to Eve Weather and Eve Door & Window sensors? Thanks!
Hi Josh! We’ll introduce updates to all our products once we need to. Best regards, volker
Do you think we’ll see the Eve Energy update before December? Or can you give us any estimate at all? Thanks, love what ya’ll are doing.
Hi Jake! Sorry, but I don’t have a schedule for that or can talk about it. Best regards, volker
Hi Volker!
Do you think the firmware for Eve Door and Window will be well tested and approved by the end of November?
Diane
Hi Diane! The new firmware for Eve Door & Window is available. Best regards, volker
Firmware update performed on two motions devices. Clearer faster response on animations but still not quite instantaneous
Hi, I’ve seen a few people on Reddit says no they’ve had an update for the Eve Door/window, but so far I’ve seen no update in the Eve app. Is there a reason why this would be so?
Hi Simon! We are using two different hardware sets in Eve Door & Window. Already rolled out the firmware update for one of them, the other is coming these days. Best regards, volker
Any known issues with motion becoming unresponsive after the update? I know since the update I have had to pull the batteries three times now as the device has gone unresponsive. Prior to the update the unit has never once hiccuped.
Thanks
Hi Jasen! After doing the power cycle (batteries out for 15-20 seconds), does Eve Motion work again? Best regards, volker
Hello,
The firmware update doesn’t appear for me. I have the Eve Motion “F45D”, my current firmware is “2.1.0 (708)”.
What can I do?
Thanks!
Hi Loïc! You are already at the latest firmware. Best regards, volker
Hi Volker
Yes the unit starts responding again once recycled. Let me know if there is anything else I can provide. Will also reply back when/if it occurs again.
Thanks
Jasen
I have the exactly same problem. After firmware update, once a day, the sensor become unresponsive. I have to remove the batteries and the sensor start to work again. I have also tried to reset the motion sensor and re-add to homekit but after some hours it stop working.
What can i do?
I have the exact same issue as well. Eve Motion becomes unresponsive after some time and I need to pull the batteries out, and then put them back in, several times so far.
Hi Sophia! After repowering Eve Motion please make sure to re-power Eve by force quit and restart. What’s the time between Eve Motion working and becoming unresponsive? Best regards, volker
Volker,
The time between Eve working and becoming unresponsive can be around 4 to 5 days or so. Then it needs to be reset.
Hi Sophia! I am checking the issue with the engineers over here. Best regards, volker
Volker,
I believe I have a scenario that makes this problem appear all the time now. I have 2 motion sensors controlling one light: An Elgato Eve Motion detector at the bottom of my stairs and a Hue motion sensor at the top of my stairs. I have 2 triggers defined for this scenario: the Motion On trigger is set to trigger the light on if either sensor gets the MOTION signal. The Motion Off trigger is set to be called if either sensor gets the CLEAR signal. In my Motion Off condition statement, I check to see if both sensors register CLEAR before I turn off the light.
What I see is, after a while, the Eve Motion sensor stops registering either MOTION or CLEAR. However, when I look at the Elgato Eve app, I can see that the MOTIOn and CLEAR are being shown. So, it may be that the Homekit motion detector handler somehow got deregistered for Eve Motion. If I take out the batteries from Eve Motion and put them back in again, reboot my Apple TV, then the automations start to work again.
The Hue motion sensor never exhibits this behavior and I didn’t see this behavior before the firmware upgrade. It could be that the problem was already there, maybe on the Homekit side, and the eve Motion firmware update just aggravated it. So now, the problem happens all the time. Not sure.
However, this is the behavior I’m seeing at the moment. In this configuration, if there is a lot of motion, then the triggers will stop responding. The cause could be Eve Motion, Homekit, or a combination of both. But if you create this scenario, you should see the problem happen. It could take a few hours or a few days, but at some point, the triggers will stop responding to motion events.
Hi Richard! I am reporting the behavior to my colleagues. I hope to have a solution by next week and will let you know. Best regards, volker
Volker
Eve motion has returned to unreachable state. Looks like it stayed working for six days. Not sure if there is any data I can give you all but will leave it in this state for a day or so.
Regards
Hi Jasen! Did you power off/on the device via getting off the batteries for 15-20 seconds? Best regards, volker
I have the same problem with eve motion after recent firmware upgrade. The device works just fine for a few days and after that becomes unresponsive. By the day it happened two times. Every time I removed batteries, waited for a few minutes and inserted the batteries back to make the device work.
Volker,
is it possible to have the motion timeout value be a characteristic that can be set via a scene and queried in a trigger. My scenario is the following: During the day, I usually set the motion sensor timeout to be 10 minutes in my living room. In the evening, when I’m sitting on the couch, watching TV or just hanging with friends, I set it to 3 hours. I’d like to change the motion sensor timeout based on the time of day automatically in a trigger.
Hi Sophia! Unfortunately this does not work, sorry. Best regards, volker
Hi Sophia, if you have any device that is switched on by Homekit (like my whole TV+receiver set is switched via a smart plug), then you can use that as condition: i.e. trigger the motion sensor action ONLY if the TV set is off. At least that is how it is working in my home.
Same issue, as i decribed some day ago: after some day the motion sensor becomed unreachable again. Also one of my eve door and window yesterday had the same problem.
It’s a bug in the new firmware, before the update never had this problem.
Hi Davide! I am checking the issue with the engineers here, having only a few users with the problem. Best regards, volker
Volker
Yes the device has been recycled by pulling the batteries and waiting around 30s before reinserting them. Unit also has fresh set of batteries in it as I swapped them the first time this occurred even though they reported about 40% useage left on them.
Hi Jasen! I’ve forwarded the issue to our engineers. I have a very few similar cases. Best regards, volker
Hello,
One question, I have Eve Motion controlling some hue lamps with motion detection. I have used the Home app to make the hue lamps turn off ten minutes after motion is detected.
How is this supposed to work? I experience that, after a motion is detected, the lamps light up. So far so good.
But if I stay in the room for ten minutes the lamps turns off after ten minutes, even with multiple motions during the period. Is this the expected behaviour, or is it suppose to reset the ten minute count after each detected movement?
I would prefer it resets the time with every motion detected.
Hi Patrik! The time is prolonged, at least when you use Eve for setting up the rules. You want to set the duration then. Best regards, volker
Hi Volker,
is there any way to export the rules from the Eve app? It would be great to export them for backup, or even better to be able to restore in case issues happen. I have several pages of rules active, and I would like to have them safe and stored.
thank you
Norbert
Hi Norbert! As of today there is no way to safe rules/automation. Best regards, volker

Hi Volker….any word from your engineers….I have the same problem….Eve Motion works for a couple days and then becomes unresponsive….I need to take the batteries out and reinsert them to get it working again.
Hi Eric! No answer so far from our engineers. They try to set up the issue. Best regards, volker
Hello,
Same issue with new firmware…3 Eve motions randomly not respondind every 2-3 days. Kind of anoying 🙁
Hi Nikola! We are still investigating the issue, will get back to you. Best regards and happy holidays, volker
Hi,
I have Eve Door, after firmware upgrade, continuously receive notifications without any event.
Best Regards,
Georgi
Hi Georgi! Try a soft reset. Take out the battery for 15-20 seconds, re-insert and let me know if this helps. Best regards and happy holidays, volker
I have a eve door & window and a eve motion sensor. Setup Some rules for controlling my Philips hue lamps.
Als I have 9 Philips motion sensors (they do motion, light and temperature for less money) they work all the time.
My eve sensors just miss rules about 30% of the time. I have the latest firmware on them. My 3 eve energy’s work perfect all the time. This is getting pretty annoying. I wish I could turn to the Philips sensors… but they don’t work in cold weather outside. Could you please fix this. I have al lot of different sensors but the eve are not working all the time and are by far the most expensive. Bluetooth distance is ok. Sensors are reacting but rules and scenes are not activated by them most of the time
Hi Leroy! Are you using a home hub for example an Apple TV 4 in your setup? This is mandatory when setting up rules in HomeKit. Best regards, volker
Hi there everyone and Mr. Volker;
I have read all the complaints, comments, etc.
Like you folks, I experienced problems with our Eve Motion devices the day after iOS 11.2 and tvOS 11.2 were out. My wife’s iPhone and the Apple TV automatically updated. About a week later, iOS 11.2.1 and tvOS 11.2.1 were released, as patches for this problem:
https://9to5mac.com/2017/12/20/how-the-homekit-vulnerability-worked/
My understanding is that as a short term measure, 11.2 patched the vulnerability by disabling remote access. 11.2.1 enabled remote access again.
After messing with them repeatedly, I started a dialogue with support. Which they were great on replying to promptly. I gave them very detailed emails on what I did and whether it worked or not. Ultimately, my Eve Motion devices continued to register motion constantly (two weeks) but my HomeKit rules worked fine, so I have left it alone. I ended up doing the following:
– Ensuring updates to 11.2.1 for the single iPhone (mine is staying at 10.3.2 for a while longer) and Apple TV
– Deleting the Eve Motion devices from HomeKit and any data they stored
– Rebooting every Apple device involved
– Resetting the Eve Motion devices with a paper clip
– Paring and adding the Eve Motion devices to HomeKit which included scanning the HomeKit code
– Recreating the affected rules again as they were deleted when the device was deleted.
– The scenes weren’t affected.
– All devices were paired while one meter from our Apple TV and about ten centimeters or so from my iPhone.
That lasted for almost two weeks.
Yesterday, the HomeKit rules involving the Eve Motion devices stopped working again and I tried the steps Mr. Volker repeated here. Again, the same problems with pairing, rules, etc. Tomorrow I will go through the steps outlined above and hopefully they will work again.
All my other devices have functioned fine during this.
Although this can be frustrating but don’t give up. We like the Eve Motion devices because generally they have worked well for us and we can put them anywhere and we will be getting more as we continue “building out” our HomeKit based automation through out our house.
I believe at least part of this is an Apple related problem that likely has to do with iCloud related matters and HomeKit permissions based on what I have read about the problem.
When a company designs a product, they can vigorously test until they feel it works as designed. But there still may be problems that occur that could not have been foreseen and they could be due to any number of factors, many the developer has not control over, but has to deal with anyway.
Have patience as it is frustrating and believe me, I was definitely frustated. Everything I have read about Elgato products, says they generally make pretty good things. HomeKit is just one area of their products.
I also used some of the steps is this article during this process of using HomeKit accessories in general even before i purchased the Eve Motion sensors:
https://www.imore.com/how-to-fix-homekit-iphone-ipad/
Enjoy the holidays and I hope this helps.
Agent Smith
Hi Agent Smith!
Lots of questions, I’ll try to answer them.
11.2.1 enabled remote access again
Correct. Apple disabled guest access in 11.2 due to a bug.
Make sure your iOS devices are on iOS 11.2.1 and so is tvOS.
I’ve forwarded you problem with Eve Motion to our engineering team, will get back to you after Tuesday.
Thanks for the info, happy holidays, volker
Just an update. All is working again. The Eve Motion devices are recording motion information properly this time, not registering motion for hours and days. All my HomeKit rules are working correctly.
Hi AgentSmith! Thanks for the update! Best regards, volker
Hi Volker. Since 4 weeks I’m using the Eve Motion. My expectation was that the sensor would detect my presence within 1 or 2 seconds but in most cases it takes up to 10 seconds (waving like a crazy one) before I’m detected and something happens. Is this normal behouvior? Or is something wrong with it and should I have to sent it back for service?
Hi Robert! Do you use an Apple TV 4 / 4K at home in your network? Reaction time should be less than a second. Best regards, volker
Hi folks,
I am adding myself to the queue of people with Motion sensors that stop responding after a few hours/days: I have 5 Eve Motion units, 2 of them stop responding usually at about 1 or 2 days after power cycle resets, 2 of them stop responding randomly every one or two weeks and the last one (used outdoor) never lost a connection and works perfecly instead!
Volker, let us know if you have any updates from the engineers 😉
Hi Davide! Sorry but I don’t have any response as of today. I do have sent a unit that behaves similar to the engineers today, awaiting answers and will let you know. Thanks for your patience, best regards, volker
If you may need another devices behaving similarly to help the engineers to make more tests, I could send you one of mines too.
Hi Davide! Our engineering has a device to check, thx a lot! Best regards, volker
Hi, my Eve motion even after the latest update, my Apple TV 4 is on the latest TVos too, the response time still a few seconds, after i see the red light on the motion until my hue light turns on, takes a few seconds most of the time … i tried different locations at the house to see if was some signal problem in my network but its the same …
Hi Artur! One question: Is your Apple TV 4 in reach of Eve Motion. If so the Hue lights should turn on immediately. Try to delete the rules and set them new. I used the app Home for it cause you can set the duration of the scene (lights on) pretty easy. Best regards, volker
Hi Volker,
I do have an Apple TV4 in range. I also removed all the rules and created them again, still the same result. ????
Hi Robert! Once you are waving, do you see the red LED lit up? You can set it in the settings of Eve Motion. If so, is this withing a second? Best regards, volker
Hi Volker, thanks for the reply. My apple tv 4 is at the same room (Living room) and the eve motion at the hall entrance, no walls or doors to separate both areas, i believe it can reach but i have no way to be sure how strong is the signal
Hi Artur! If Eve Motions LED is lit up you should see the Hue lamps turn on almost immediately, they use WLAN/Lan for connecting the Hue bridge. I am using pretty much the same setup. A while ago I realised that something is not working the way it should and opened the Hue app to learn that there was an update for the bridge. Give it a try please and let me know, best regards, volker
Hi Volker, Yes you are right, usually the Hue lights are pretty fast responding, my Hue bridge and light bulbs are all up to date, but still the response time with the Eve motion, after i see the red light blinking, it takes few seconds for the light to turn on. I guess its a problem here at my place, i noticed that in some areas the signal is weak due to the walls, but with the Hue motion sensor, it works really fast in the same locations ….
By the way, my Eve door sensor works much faster to turn on a light in my Hall.
And for this sensor i noticed that sometimes i get some notifications that are not true …
Hi Artur! This is strange… I’ll check. Best regards, volker
Hi Artur! Would you mind deleting the automation ans set it up as a new one in Home and let me know if this works better for you? Best regards, volker
Volker,
Is it possible to add a flag to enable and disable the motion sensor. Currently, I use the night light on an iDevices switch to do this. For instance, I check the night light in the conditions portion of a trigger, and if it’s OFF, then I don’t execute a scene. If the motion sensor had it’s own flag, then this would be more convenient. Something that can be set via a scene and checked in a trigger, would be great.
hi james! Use an automation with Home to do so. You may use the time as a condition. Best regards, volker
Time does not work in all cases. If a light goes on because of a motion sensor, or because of a different scheduled automation that urns the light on, there is no way to know, in the motion sensor CLEAR automation, why the light was turned on. Right now, people use the iDevices night light as a signal to figure out how the light was turned on and what to do in the CLEAR automation. That’s why an internal flag may be better. Philips Hue has an internal flag that can enable and disable their motion sensors.
Hi James! I do use a nightlight/daylight in conjunction with my Hue lights and Eve Motion, works like a charm. In the app Home you can set a durytion. Also works if you want to use Eve only, use “duration” in Eve Motion’s settings. Best regards, volker
I have been trying to apply the version 2.1.0 (708) update to my Eve Motion. The updates states “downloading measurements” for several minutes then eventually returns the error “Downloading failed.” I have tired the update with my iPad and iPhone with the device sitting right next to either device on a table. The update will not successfully install. Is there some additional step or process I can try?
Hi Daron! Would you mind to force quit the app Eve and alle HomeKit enabled apps and then reboot the iPhone. This should do the trick. Best regards, volker
