Elgato today announces the second generation of the connected radiator valve Eve Thermo. Eve Thermo introduces capacitive touch control, integrated temperature display of the target temperature. Furthermore, Eve Thermo can be controlled via schedules, HomeKit automations, Siri, Apple Home and the Eve app.
The Eve Thermo features precise temperature control, frost damage protection and automatic valve maintenance. Energy-saving functions include open-window detection, presence detection and holiday automation. Eve Thermo includes all the features needed to keep rooms warm and comfortable, reliably, economically and automatically year round. As with all Eve family products, HomeKit is natively supported by iOS devices. Meaning all Elgato Eve products work right out of the box, without spending extra on a bridge device or starter pack. Eve Thermo is available from September 26th for £59.95 / 69,95 Euro.
Smart, integrated display
The target temperature can be adjusted in increments of 0.5° C via a white-translucent LCD display and a capacitive touch control. The display is activated by a simple fingertip and switches off a few moments after the last input. The Eve app makes it easy to adjust the display orientation so you can mount Eve Thermo vertically or horzontically. You can even lock the keypad if your valve works in the kids’ room, or a publicly accessible space. Despite the extended range of functions, Eve Thermo comes with a longer battery life of over 12 months.
Proven comfort package
Like the first generation of Eve Thermo, the new model also uses the reliable control technology from Eurotronic, one of Germany’s market leaders in electronic radiator control systems. Eve Thermo can be controlled with schedules stored in the device, automated by HomeKit rules or timers, or via Siri, Apple Home and the Eve app to set your comfort temperature.
Advanced functions include automatic integration with an Eve Door & Window sensor installed in the same room or alternatively the integrated window detection. Either method will ensure no heating energy is wasted during the ventilation.
Eve Thermo includes both frost and valve protection; it can even set weekend and holiday settings by referring to the iPhone calendar. To prevent the home from freezing up during a holiday trip with a chosen room temperature, activate the scene Going on Vacation in the app Eve.
Location-based control
Eve Thermo can automatically lower the temperature when the last person has left the house. This feature, based on the brand-new presence detection feature of HomeKit, is easily linked to other automations.
Price and availability
Eve Thermo is priced at £59.95 / 69,95 Euro and will be available from September 26th at Elgato and Amazon and soon at Apple. The Eve app is available for free in the App Store.
Hi
I have a room with 3 radiators of different size how do i set offset on these? If i have one external termometer
Hi Jesper! I’d measure the temperature where you usually are Lets say you set the temperature on all radiators zu 21 degrees. Start with the offset you get then when comparing the temperature you see on the thermometer and the one(s) you set. Try playing with the offset(s). No other way to find out as far as I know. Best regards, volker
My experience is, example:
Eve Thermo = 71.6 °F (22 °C)
Room= 68°F (20 °C)
Offset should be Eve Thermo – Room = +3.6 °F (+2 °C)
The documentation says it should be -3.6 °F (that’s wrong).
The offset controls the regulation of the temperature for the room, but NOT the display at the Eve Thermo. That’s a decision made by Elgato, because the Offset is not linear over the temperature range, because a warm radiator influence the temperature measurement of the Eve Thermo more than a cold radiator.
Hi, I bought 2 EVE Thermo 2017 and both have the same issue. the temperature measured is 30-32 celsius and the ambient temperature 19 celsius. So I cannot use them. I mounted with the only suitable adaptor and reset, remounted… same issue also on different heaters. Has someone any similar issue and maybe solution?
Hi Renato! Whats the temperature you set the Eve Thermo to? Are you setting the temperature manually or via schedule? Best regards, volker
I want to use Thermo valves on the south side of my house to counteract the solar gain that heats the rooms on the south (and save energy). The central heating thermostat is in a north side room, so is unaware of the solar gain. The Thermos will only detect the temperature close to them and not the (higher) average temperature of the room due to solar gain. The normal “offset” technique for the Thermo won’t work properly because I’d need to adjust the offset depending on whether the sun is shining or not.
I think what I need is a temperature measuring device located in the room where it will be sensitive to the solar gain and which can then control the Thermo (via HomeKit?). Can you suggest a solution?
Hi SciencePete! I am using an Eve Room (Eve Weather or Degree) would do the same. I’ve set up rules/automation then based on the temperature measured by Eve room that set the temperature for Eve Thermo. There is no way to make HomeKit enabled devices directly talk to each other due to security reasons. Best regards, volker
Hello, what information, thermo does not recognize eve door, why? in the thermo display can the temperature of the room be displayed beyond that set? if so? I read that it connects to the internet to monitor the outside temperature, how? thank you and sorry for google english, i’m italian
Hi Claudio! There is no connection of HomeKit enabled devices to the internet. If Eve Thermo and Eve Door&Window are in the same room, you can set up automation to stop heating when the Window is opened. Best regards, volker
Hello,
I’ve just installed 3 Eve Thermo.
I would like to know if it is possible to get the temperature corrected with the offset in the graphs.
Cause in the eve app this is the « real » temperature measured by the Thermo which is reported as well as for Home App. And it is difficult to remember the offset of each room to calculate the real temperature. I hope I am clear in my explanation.
Regards.
Hi LightSonic! The offset does not correct the temperature measured by Eve Thermo. You have to set the offset by accessory/room. Best regards, volker
Hi,
Using Homekit to control my Eve Thermo v2, i am confronted with different colours in the HomeKit App. The temperature is displayed in either in a green or orange circle.
Does this signify when the heater is off/ on? It doesn’t seem to be the case with me, as there is no correlation with the Target temperature being above/ below actual… It also doesn’t seem to align with the schedule….
it’s probably very simple, I am just missing it…
Thanks for clarifying
Hi Bart! Orange means it is heating, green means the temperature you set ist reached. Best regards, volker
Thanks Volker. It would imply that the icon will not be “orange” if the target temperature is below the “actual”… unfortunately, that is not the case with me… (also not when reducing with the offset). Am i misunderstanding something?
Thanks,
Bart
Hi Bart! The offset does not count here. It’s only the target temperature. Best regards, volker
Hi,
I have Eve Thermos’s in the same room (one new, one old). Is there any way to synchronise the target temperature if it is manually changed on the touchpanel of the new one?
Br,
Kasper
Hi Kasper! Sorry, this is not possible. Due to security reasons HomeKit enabled devices can’t talk to each other direct. Best regards, volker
Hi there, I suppose that Eve Thermo works in principle like any other thermovalve, but with possibilities to manage it remotely. I have a central heating system in my house where I’m using Equithermal regulation of heating water (based on outside temperature and some characteristics of the house construction) with 4-way valve. What I’d expect from implementation of Eve Thermo is to be able to replace “stupid” Heimeier valves and to be able to manage temperature in different rooms based on the time and situation. Is Eve good solution for this intention, please?
Hi Ludek! This is correct as far as I understand your heating system. Best regards, volker
What is the difference between the 2015 and the 2017 models? Is it only the touch functionality?
Hi Christo! Correct, this is the difference, the LED showing the temperature and the touch panel adjusting it. Best regards, volker
FYI: I have bought an Eve thermo and am considering returning it since it is proving very difficult to find the proper adapter in Norway to connect the thermo to MMA (M28x1.5mm). It is sad since some of your competitors do ship with adapters for M28x1.5mm.
My use case only was to properly regulate temperature — as I’m on district heating smart radiator valves don’t save me any money. While some of the competition looks better designed and has more adapters, I still liked the eve thermo since it did not require any hub and I could buy just one to start with.
HiET! Sorry hearing that. We are shipping Adapters for Danfoss heaters that are common over here. Best regards, volker
Hi Volker:
Will the end for the radiators work in the Czech Republic? If so, what brands of radiators are supported?
Thanks
Hi Sean! Sorry, but I hav no idea if this works in the Czech Republic. You might want to ask a plumber. Best regards, volker
